SAHARADJA

Saharadja... a band that has created one of the coolest, most eclectic sounds to emerge from the tropical paradise of Bali. It's not everyday that you can hear the trumpet, guitar, tabla, violin, the didgeridoo, tin flute... all harmonising perfectly together to create a sound that is almost ethereal. Their music is best served live... which is why if you're ever headed to Bali, theirs is a performance you shouldn't miss.

But till then, here's an excerpt of the beautiful music that is Saharadja.

* The sound and video quality is lacking... but I do hope you'll enjoy it nonetheless.

For such traditional, even eclectic instruments, they have very modern melodies.
Definitely something I will pay to listen to. So any takers for Javajazz 2007?

I hope you'll be able to make it to JavaJazz next year. Not too sure if Saharadja will be playing though. Will need to check the website.

Anyone else interested in a weekend of great jazz in Jakarta, let me know. I can help advise on the travel arrangements. It's happening in Mar 2007.

Nope... this was recorded when they came to Singapore to perform in June 06. Just found out someone posted this clip on youtube. Thought it'd be nice to share it here.

Been wanting to go to Bali again to watch them live but have never managed to find the time nor the company to do so.

Aiyoh, pai seh! I looked at the posting in the office and my com has no speakers...
NOW that i'm home, I see it says Live at the Esplanade at the beginning of the clip! But this is cool stuff, i like the vocal parts, very haunting.

hey peter,

if you thought the vocals on the video was haunting, wait till you see them live.

we have a nickname for Gede, the guitarist who sang in the video... we call him "Falsetto Maut"... loosely translated as Killer Falsetto.

Saharadja is releasing a new album. If you like what you hear, then you can pop by www.saharadja.net.

Saharadja has ended.
Since their manager has been pushed out of the band by its leader, Saharadja have been lacking of creativity and energy, and exposure. They were on the point to go for a 1st french tour, and now, 4 years after, Saharadja explode.
The main couple divorced, and the 1st time fans run away from a so call charismatic leader that beleive he is already a big world star.
A shame for such great energy and for all that were suporting the band and beleived in them.
